Phantom,
2007
Phantom is a stark visual overlay on a textured textual narrative; a strategy that has worked well for me in previous works. Phantom is a fictional reflection on love, despair and intimacy. Ray Hutchins intelligently embodies this subjectivity in a subtle and moving performance. |

Pool,
2000.
Pool explores the intersection of memory, values and beliefs in
the construction of identity. |
 |
Bliss,
2000.
Bliss is
a short video that seeks to communicate through images and sound a realm
of experience that transcends the limits of language. It is a portrait
of subjectivity that resists analysis and as such is ungraspable and
remote. Bliss is simultaneously a state of grace and a portrait
of alienation. |

NIAGARA SQUARE,
2004.
In Support of Critical Art Ensemble and Steve Kurtz. |
 |
HATE,
2002.
A video in which the cultural dynamics of hatred are explored through
a series of talking heads and monologues. The video seeks to denaturalize
a condition in which the potential solidarity amongst different people
is subverted by notions of nationalism, race, gender, class etc. By problematizing
what seems to remain hidden or at least unspoken this work seeks to provoke
a conversation. |

Hope,
2004.
In memory of my friend Hope Kurtz 2004. |
 |
Thirst,
2000.
Thirst
is a video in which verbal and visual clues converse on the uncertain
engagement of discourse and desire. Visual and acoustical layers of language
point to an unattainable state valued by the very nature of its absence.
Thirst is about wanting and the impossibility of completeness at
any given time. |

Sunburn,
2002.
These are a few scenes
from Sunburn, a feature film currently in its postproduction stage.
It was directed by Humberto Ramirez and Charles Recher. Sunburn
is a film that seeks to tap into the "Reality TV Show" phenomenon. A quick
style of editing aims at producing a narrative that while not linear still
alllows for storytelling and interpersonal drama. Soundtrack music by
Vince Caro of Basement Apartment, Susstones label. |
